I teach people just like you to defend themselves and end fights with ease – even when they have no previous experience.
My approach is based off of my Self Defense Blueprint. It’s a step-by-step checklist for learning, developing and training the fundamentals of efficient self defense.

A Message From Ian
Hey everyone! I would like to thank each and every one of you who view my articles and videos. I would like to thank you for the likes and shares and subscriptions.
I would like to thank you for enrolling into my online classroom and for making donations towards the opening of my first martial arts school in Cleveland, Ohio.
Without you, I couldn't live out this dream of teaching self defense to the masses. Without you, I wouldn't have the drive, dedication or discipline to become greater than I am every day. Without you, I'd just be talking to a camera. You give me a purpose and it's my greatest pleasure to teach you in return.
Every contribution you make to this website allows me to spend my time teaching rather than work a full time job slaving in front of a desk.
So for those few who might actually read this, I dedicate this site to you.
Classically trained in Korean Karate, Ian has +25 years of experience training in Traditional Taekwondo, Sport Taekwondo, Shorin-Ryu Karate-Do and Jeet Kune Do.
Inspired by Bruce Lee’s art of Jeet KuneDo, Ian created Modern JKD on August 7th, 2017 due to his interest in effective self defense over sport training.
Ian is currently planning his move to Cleveland, Ohio early 2020 to open the Headquarters of Modern JKD.
Created on August 7th, 2017, Modern JKD is a martial art and combat sport system that focuses on striking with particular emphasis on interception.
Modern JKD expanded beyond Jeet Kune Do due to a lack of grappling and weapons training which is necessary for combative training.
Due to the nature of training, sweating and clothing constantly being tugged on, we have begun to use Gi and No-Gi uniforms while also following a belt system similar to the Dan Ranking System.
We do not claim to be or teach Jeet Kune Do, as it’s limited. We proudly offer Modern JKD for all of your self defense needs.
